Start with the surface

What does your cladding need?

Refurbishment can retain suitable existing metal cladding through cleaning, repair and recoating. The right route depends on its condition—not just the colour you want.

01

Faded or chalking finish

Separate surface contamination from a weathered coating. Clean, assess and specify the finish your building needs.

Understand the repair
02

Peeling paint or Plastisol

Find the failing layer before recoating. Unsound material needs removal; retained finishes need compatibility and adhesion checks.

03

Rust & cut edge corrosion

Assess exposed edges, overlaps and metal loss. Targeted corrosion repairs come before the general coating.

04

Leaks, joints & fixings

Identify the source of water and the detail repairs required. A fresh coat is not a substitute for diagnosing rain ingress or condensation.

Cladding colour changes

For rebranding, tired retail units or a refreshed industrial estate, agree a colour reference and finish alongside the repair specification. A colour change still starts with a sound surface.

Refurbish or replace?

Retain panels where their condition supports refurbishment. Significant metal loss, panel damage or assembly defects need a repair or replacement assessment. Paint cannot restore lost structural capacity.

When to refurbish and when to replace

Cladding repairs & cut-edge corrosion

Repair the damage.
Then restore the finish.

Rust at sheet edges, peeling factory finishes and damaged panels need different treatment. We assess the extent of deterioration before agreeing local repairs, preparation and recoating. Where metal has been lost or a panel is no longer sound, coating alone is not the repair.

Cut-edge corrosion questions →

Sheet edges & laps

Check exposed edges and overlaps, remove unsound material and specify compatible treatment for retained metal.

Peeling coatings

Identify the failing layer, prepare sound boundaries and confirm adhesion before the general finish.

Damaged panels & details

Agree which defects can be repaired and which need replacement or another specialist before spraying.

Lease-end & rebranding

A clear scope for the next use.

For lease-end refurbishment, send the schedule supplied by your appointed adviser. For a new tenant or rebrand, send the elevations, colour references and required timing. We price the coating and repair work against that scope.

Colour, access and handover agreed together.

Confirm the finish with a physical sample or agreed reference. Plan masking around glazing and signage, access to loading bays and any phased work before application. Screen colours are a guide, not a finish approval.

The panels and the details.

A cladding quotation should identify the elevations, edges, fixings, flashings and interfaces included in the work. Agree the preparation and finish for these details alongside the main panels.

We do the application

Planned around your building.
Prepared for the finish.

01

Assess

Identify the panels, existing finish, corrosion, access and operating constraints. Photographs start the conversation; inspection defines the scope.

02

Specify

Agree repairs, preparation, primer, finish and colour. Check compatibility and the manufacturer’s requirements for the actual substrate.

03

Prepare & spray

Plan access and masking, protect adjacent areas, prepare the surface and apply the specified system within its application limits.

04

Check & hand over

Agree inspection records, completed scope, aftercare and the written warranty terms applicable to your project.

Your building still has a job to do.

Warehouses need loading-bay and delivery access. Retail units need customer routes and overspray protection. Facilities teams need phased work and clear defect priorities. We discuss occupation, ventilation, working areas and timing before agreeing the programme.

A clear scope for every team.

For main contractors, agree interfaces, access and technical submissions. For lease-end or dilapidations work, base the coating scope on the requirements supplied by your appointed advisers. Weather and curing allowances belong in the programme.

Cost & project scope

A useful quote starts
with the right details.

Cladding refurbishment cost depends on measured area, access, condition, repairs, preparation and the complete coating system. A price per square metre means little without that scope.

Send us a picture of the project.

  • Site postcode and building use
  • Approximate area, elevations and photographs
  • Peeling, corrosion, leaks or damaged details
  • Desired colour, access constraints and target timing

Photos support an initial review. A firm specification may require a site inspection and adhesion checks.

Manufacturer relationships

Direct to the people who make the coatings.

Our direct manufacturer relationships support system discussions. The proposed specification should identify the substrate, preparation, primer and finish, with the exact technical support and warranty conditions agreed for your project.

Plastisol, PVDF, polyester finishes, galvanised steel, aluminium and insulated panels need their own compatibility checks. Prokol TopSpray 35 is a system to discuss against current technical information—not a universal answer for every panel.

What is cladding refurbishment?

Cladding refurbishment improves existing panels through inspection, cleaning, appropriate repairs and recoating. The work should match the panel condition and the protection or appearance required.

Does cladding refurbishment mean replacing the panels?

Not necessarily. Recoating can retain suitable existing cladding. Inspection determines whether refurbishment is appropriate or whether deterioration means panels need repair or replacement.

What should a cladding refurbishment quotation include?

A useful quotation separates access, preparation, panel or detail repairs, the specified coating system, protection of surrounding areas, waste handling and VAT. It should also identify exclusions and any conditions that could change the final price.

Can you quote from photographs, or is a survey needed?

Photographs and dimensions can support an initial assessment. A firm specification may require inspection and adhesion testing to confirm the substrate, existing finish and condition.

Can a business remain open while its cladding is refurbished?

The proposed works should include an occupation plan covering entrances, deliveries, staff and customer access, ventilation, overspray protection and working areas. Whether normal operations can continue depends on the site and chosen method.

What does a cladding refurbishment warranty cover?

Ask for the named warranty provider, covered defects, exclusions, maintenance requirements and claim process. Clarify how product cover, workmanship cover and any separately offered insurance-backed protection relate to the quoted work.
